2011 - 100 Years of Census $1 Uncirculated Coin in Card
Australia’s first nationally coordinated Census was taken on 2nd April 1911. It contained 21 questions and revealed a population of 4 455 005 people. Many of these question are still in use today.
The Census of 1947 played an important role directing post-WWII Australia in the areas of migration and infrastructure, and from 1971 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were included in the official population enumeration.
The Census is used for determining where schools, hospitals are needed, and where funding is required.
The 2011 Census will again help to chart the course of our nation’s future.
Housed in packaging similar to the Inspirational Australian series, it will feature text and images relating to the role Census has played in the research and information gathering over the past 100 years.
